TC is slightly less fiddly - there are still too many modifiers and too many tables for my liking, but not that many to turn me away from the rules. to fit all (and I mean ALL) the tables and modifiers for everything in Take Cover takes up 4 A4 sheets (at 10 point font). About the same as RF1 (2 would take more).

On radios, this is one of the few bits where there is a small sentence or two on why it was done. Company commanders can call in their own battalion support, but need to roll 2+ for 'radio' to simulate that sometimes it just did not happen. FOOs are 2+ for direct support and gets worse the higher up the chain the artillery is coming from, if the FOO is supressed etc. If you added this to the to hit, then the way the rules work, if you miss, you automatically hit next turn. So, the radio roll is the fact you may not even get a chance to hit. But it is a designer choice in the end, as you say you could just roll it into the chance to hit (and possibly take out the auto hit in the following turn if you miss- ie. you miss, you have to roll to hit next turn). Thanks for that thought - it is worth thinking over if I ever produce a streamlined version of TC.Shaun Travershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05691522858410783769noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8394777082320559161.post-23642427365058302912011-03-01T01:41:30.584+10:002011-03-01T01:41:30.584+10:00Thanks for the review Shaun. I do like the fact that TC is very straight forward. No fiddly game mechanics. Even the artillery attacks are resolved quickly though I am not sure why you would need to roll for radio contact. Seems to me you should be able to get a target roll with 1 die and a damage roll with another.Johnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17580996687227953658noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8394777082320559161.post-43495687402214369102011-02-18T19:35:14.224+10:002011-02-18T19:35:14.224+10:00Steve,

Take Cover plays well without any tanks at all (I have done so). Rapid Fire not so well, IMO.Shaun Travershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05691522858410783769noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8394777082320559161.post-91260633226027265662011-02-16T06:58:35.758+10:002011-02-16T06:58:35.758+10:00Interesting stuff! These rules seem more like it to me and I'll be keeping a lookout for a copy.Stevehttp://wwwspcwargamescenery.blogspot.com/noreply@blogger.com
